The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, has officially commissioned the Imo State Land Information Service Centre (LIS), a landmark development signaling the dawn of a fully digitized, transparent and people-centered land administration system in the state. The centre, which has been described as a groundbreaking leap into modern governance, is designed to streamline land processes while ensuring transparency, accessibility and improved service delivery for citizens. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Uzodinma described LIS as the beginning of a new dawn for land administration in Imo State, stressing that the era of corruption, irregular land acquisition, land theft and abuse of government-owned land has come to an end. “With the introduction of this fully automated system, we have restored transparency, accountability and dignity to land administration in Imo State. This initiative is an octopus, solving many problems at the same time. Land transactions will now be seamless, secure and accessible from anywhere,” he said. The Governor further explained that experts selected and trained from within the state will manage the platform, ensuring a homegrown system capable of sustaining long-term efficiency. He also noted that the centre now functions as the brain-box of the Ministry of Lands, reporting directly to the Governor’s office and eliminating physical contact and bureaucratic delays in land transactions. He appreciated stakeholders who contributed to the success of the project, noting that Imo State is now positioned to become a model for others. Earlier, the Hon. Commissioner for Digital Economy and E-Government, Dr. Chimezie Amadi, described the centre as another milestone in the Governor’s digital transformation agenda. He noted that LIS is a strategic component of the Imo Digital City Limited (IDCL) initiative, designed to integrate innovation and data intelligence in enhancing land governance and supporting sustainable development across the state. Dr. Amadi added that IDCL, a visionary creation under the leadership of His Excellency, is committed to repositioning Imo State as a digitally empowered model for Africa, with LIS standing as clear proof of that vision. In separate remarks, the Hon. Commissioner for Lands, Barrister Enyinnaya Onuegbu, and a representative of the National Space Research and Development Agency commended the Governor’s foresight, describing LIS as one-in-a-million. Barr. Enyinnaya assured that the Ministry of Lands remains committed to revenue growth, excellence and integrity in service delivery. A highlight of the event was a guided tour and facility inspection by the Governor, who assessed the centre’s operational units and digital systems. With this digital revolution now fully activated, Imo State stands on the threshold of a more transparent, efficient and inclusive future, one where technology strengthens governance, empowers citizens and accelerates development. The event was attended by members of the Imo State Executive Council, legislators of the Imo House of Assembly, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Head of Service and several dignitaries.
